History of this department
The Department of Food Science was founded in 1969 and expanded from one single classes base to two classes in 1976. Currently, the total number of undergraduate students is about 400. In 1980, a master's degree program was established, divided into two groups: Food Technology and Food Industry Management. The total number of master's students was about 45. In 2023, Food Industry Management group was renamed as "Business Management of Food Industry".
Until 2022, more than 4,300 students graduated by bachelor degree, and more than 500 master's program students graduated during 31 years class. Since 1989, our department cooperated with the Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology have jointly established a biotechnology credit program. In 2008, the Food Science Testing Center was established, when 2013, it obtained TAF certification for five analytical testing items including general ingredients and sodium.
